Day 155/366: Pollo alla Diavola

Day 155/366: Pollo alla Diavola

I made this Italian chicken dish called Pollo alla Diavola for dinner today. It was very good! My 8 year old daughter ate so much, and claimed it as one of her top 3 favorite dishes. The dish had chicken breaded with a mix of bread crumbs, garlic, chili, salt and pepper, and the side dish depicted here was braised spinach and mushrooms with salt, pepper and lemon. Scrumptious!

Day 154/366: Dark Sun

Day 154/366: Dark Sun

The moon is always jealous of the heat of the day, just as the sun always longs for something dark and deep.
Alice Hoffman

Be still sad heart and cease repining, behind the clouds the sun is shining; thy fate is the common fate of all; into each life some rain must fall-some days must be dark and dreary.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Some times it is the "imperfect" shots that you end up liking the bestt. Shot this on my way to IKEA, against the sun which made it all dark. But, that is what "makes" the shot me thinks.

Day 153/366: Neighborhood bikes

Day 153/366: Neighborhood bikes Saw these bikes in the little passage that runs through the gardens of our apartment complex and the gardens of the apartment complex that lies behind us. I so want a bike! Have not had one for ages, and it would be so much easier and faster for me to go where I want to go without having to be depended on public transport and/or walk! I don't mind walking, but it takes a lot of time - and I would love to be able to go for bicycle rides with the girls. Somehow I will have to find room within our tight budget to save up for one.

The passage that runs in-between the gardens of our apartment complex and the one behind us. My place is the one at the very end there, second floor... the balcony that belongs to me is the sort of hidden behind those branches there, not the top one.

Day 152/366: The Meeting

I had a meeting in this building today, finding myself in a situation that was surreal to me. I hope I never have to set foot in there again.

Day 151/366: The goons!

Day 151/366: The goons!

This was Wednesday, and by this time, the teachers (and many more with them, the ones that pick up trash, lot of other city and state employees, among other everyone in my department  except me and my coworker in Bergen so we were super busy!) had been on strike for a week As I am writing this, it has been almost two weeks with no school for the kids. The challenge has been to figure out where they can be - one thing is to let my oldest be home alone a couple of days, but not weeks on end. And of course, the youngest cannot be home alone.

We have managed with partly letting them come with us to work, partly having my parents over or let them be with my parents at the cabin, since they are retired. The blonde in the photo is one of the girls' best friends, and her dad works at the same place as me. They only have each other at the time, his parents live far away and his mom is sick. so, she has joined our girls for most of the time. This afternoon they wanted to make fruit salad, and went to the store by themselves to pick out the fruit. They did a great job, it was very tasty! They even thought to buy a lemon to squirt over it so the apples and such would not brown.
